Hydro Dip Basics

What is Hydro Dipping?

Hydro dipping is a crafting method where paint is floated on water, then tranferred onto a craft blank creating swirly psychedelic effects. It is incredibly simple and fun and many types of surfaces can be hydrodipped! Read our how-to guide.

What supplies will I need to get started?

You will need high-quality hydro dipping essentials for creative projects. These include a blank to craft such as stainless steel or powder-coated tumblers. You will need marble paintsand a finish to seal your project like Marabu Aqua Gloss Varnish or MakerFlo's Flopoxy.

Get started with Build-A-Bundle  which allows to mix, match and save on different-size tumblers and Flopoxy.

Are Marble Paints Versatile?

Marble paints can be used on wood grain, glass, paper-mâché, plastic, metal, polypropylene and more.

You can also mix the colors to create unique patterns, effects and enhance the final look of your unique product.

How do I get a Professional Finish on Hydro Dipped Painted Tumblers?

Our steel tumblers have a smooth finish, while the base coat of our powder-coated tumbler is carefully done so both surfaces are completely uniform. This standardization facilitates exceptional results after the hydro-dipping process.

If a beginner follows our guide's water transfer printing tips, they will have an even surface without bumps or any feeling of tackiness.

To seal hydro dipped tumblers, we recommend using a food-safe epoxy like MakerFlo's Flopoxy 2-Part Epoxy. For smaller projects, like pens we recommend Marabu Aqua Varnish.
